Idaho State University’s Meridian Pro Bono Physical Therapy Clinic deserves funding because it directly advances the university’s mission to improve the lives of Idahoans through education, service, and community engagement. The clinic expands access to essential rehabilitation services for underserved community members while preparing future physical therapists to deliver compassionate, high-quality care.
Many individuals in our community face significant barriers to rehabilitation, including lack of insurance coverage, high deductibles, transportation limitations, or limited access to specialty services. Without timely intervention, manageable musculoskeletal and neurologic conditions can progress to chronic pain, disability, and reduced quality of life. Our pro bono clinic provides supervised, evidence-based physical therapy services at no cost, helping bridge this gap and improve functional outcomes for those who might otherwise go without care.
At the same time, the clinic serves as a transformative educational experience for student physical therapists. Under licensed faculty supervision, students develop clinical reasoning, hands-on skills, communication strategies, and cultural competence in a real-world setting. This model ensures safe, high-quality care while cultivating socially responsible clinicians committed to health equity and service.
Funding this clinic directly supports community health, workforce development, and Idaho State’s commitment to accessible, student-centered education that strengthens Idaho communities.
